' resignation. the top u.s. commander in afghanistan general john allen is being investigated for some 20,000 to 30,000 pages of potentially inappropriate e-mails with jill kelly. kelley's initial complaint that she had received harassing e-mails from petraeus' alleged lover paula broadwell set off the initial fbi investigate into the petraeus affair. allen was set to be the next nato commander for europe, a nomination now on hold. meantime, monday night the fbi searched paula broadwell's home in north carolina but did not say what items it removed in its search. >>> investigators on the scene of an explosion that killed two people in an indianapolis neighborhood say a faulty furnace may be to blame. the owners of the home at the suspected epicenter of the blast weren't there at the time. this as dozens of displaced residents are briefly escorted to their properties to gather what they can from the wreckage. >>> gasoline rationing imposed in new jersey after hurricane sandy ends this morning. governor chris christie says the state's recovery period is over and the rebuilding has begun.

petraeus' resignation. general john allen is being investigated by the fbi for alleged inappropriate communication with the woman at the center of the petraeus scandal. investigators uncovered 20,000 to 30,000 pages of communication, mostly e-mails between allen and jill kelley. kelley is the longtime friend of the petraeus family who complained about being harassed by the woman petraeus had an affair with. a senior administration official denies allen committed any wrongdoing and expects to return to duty as commander in afghanistan as the investigation continues. this morning general allen is in washington, d.c., preparing for his senate confirmation hearing. aides close to allen say he didn't find out about all this in the investigation until tonight and the general will still appear his meetings scheduled on the hill today. >>> and on the same topic this morning, the fbi will not say what it found at the home of the woman in the center of the david petraeus scandal. agents searched paula broadwell's home last night. they left with what appeared to be documents and paperwork. broa

commander general john allen. the newest headlines are creating even more of a tangled web. this morning's "wall street journal" reports general allen, who is now under investigation for e-mails between he and jill kelley of tampa florida, is telling associates that he received an e-mail traced back to paula broadwell, the petraeus biographer. the broadwell e-mail was written under the pseudonym kelley patrol. it described kelley as a, quote, is he duct tres, and warned the general of becoming involved with her. the journal reports that kelley tried to get the fbi to drop the investigation that began with kelley's complaint with harassing e-mails traced back to broadwell. people familiar with the case tell the journal that she became worried about personal information being provided to investigators. meanwhile, the washington post quotes senior law enforcement officials saying the search conducted at broadwell's home monday night marks an interest in how she became interested in classified files. kelley said she had state department status that owe sfigs alls say she did not have
